Lest We Forget

Lest We Forget

Across generations, people of all backgrounds have fought and died to make the world a safer place. They have defended and promoted the values of freedom, democracy and human rights. We are stronger because of their service and safer because of their courage and sacrifice.

On November 11th we pay tribute to the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace.

Let us honour them the way they honoured their country, and to never forget those who did not come home.

To our war veterans and the brave men and women in uniform today, we thank you.

Remembrance and Veterans Day ImageIn Flanders fields, the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

May 3, 1915, John McCrae
